Speaking of things related to trees (well, I was thinking about them in my head anyway), Buzz joined the National Arbor Day Foundation back at the beginning of summer. For the whopping donation of $10, you got to choose 10 trees for them to send to you as a thank you gift. We would like to plant lots and lots of trees on our property (mostly so we don't have to see the neighbors any more), so we figured this is a good start.
They only ship out the trees at the proper planting time (spring and fall). We just about forgot about them. And then they showed up last week. Ten trees in a package that was 24" tall and 4" wide.

We giggled, but then we planted them this past weekend. (And when I say that "we" planted them, that means that Buzz did all the hard work and I stood there and pointed to where I thought they should go. Only I didn't even do that very well and let him pick out most of the spots.)
We are holding out a tiny bit of hope that three of them might bud in the spring. The rest are going to be tough to even find where we planted them!
Good luck, miniature saplings!
