Through my life, there have been special musical moments. One of those was when I went into my favorite record store at the tender age of 18 and asked for a record called "Magnet and Steel" by Walter Egan. At the time, I was unemployed and living off the generosity of my parents while I went to computer programming school. Money was tight. I only wanted to buy the 45 (you younguns probably don't remember 45s, now, do you?). I had a pretty good 45 collection - due almost exclusively to that unemployed status! During that time of my life, I was listening to a progressive top-40 radio station. That sounds like an oxymoron but it was basically a radio station that played the hits about 2 weeks before the rest of them did. So I found this song before my peers did. And before the record store owner did. He asked me to come back in a few days. I did and he nearly knocked me over with his exuberant greeting. He begged me to purchase a copy of the record because he had gotten 50 copies of the 45 and no one else had bought even one of them. Of course, that all changed in the next couple of weeks when the song became a mega-hit but, ever since then, I've felt that I had cornered the market and had a secret "in" with that song. It's always been special to me. Plus, it's a damn fine song! With Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks providing background vocals, it always pleases. Next time it comes on, listen with a little more attentive ear. And remember always - that's my song.

I didn't know they sang backup either. Next time I hear it, I'll listen for them.
